RAF Regiment Parachute Units 1942-2012
Chapter 4
2 Wing RAF Regiment 1948
Trials were conducted in enhancing the air-portability of RAF Regiment units.
2 Wing trained personnel as parachutists and in glider operations. It was proposed that the RAF Regiment should take over the role of the Glider Pilot Regiment
63 (Rifle) Squadron formed No 1 (Parachute) Flight and trained No 4 (Mortar) Flight to land by glider
Parachute trained personnel wore their parachute wings above their right breast pocket until permission was withdrawn by the Air Ministry.
15 (Light Anti-Aircraft) Squadron and 16 (Light Anti-Aircraft) Squadron each formed their own Parachute Teams and trained sections to land by Horsa, Hamilcar and Hadrian gliders.
